PS5 and what I learned from the PS4
So earlier the PS5 was finally revealed and the games coming for it.
Mainly a remake of Demon Souls, a game I thought was lost forever in the patent wars of the Souls games. As a long time fan of Sony I will not be picking up the PS5 even thought it is bringing back one of my favorite games in the last ten years.
- Console wars: I’m pretty sick of the exclusive games publishers are forcing us to play, pun intended. Games no longer perk our interests for their merits theses days exclusive rights either make the game great or block out a huge audience from ever getting it. While I know Nintendo is pretty strict on their games but Sony and Microsoft you guys literally make computers. Your limiting your sales by buying up the rights to select games.
- Price: Buying another console when my PC is perfectly fine seems very redundant. Granted my PS4 is fried but doesn’t seem worth it to get a new one. But I had my PC for about as long as my consoles and it only needed a new video card last year. While my PS4 can’t be fixed due to motherboard. The cost isn’t very effective due to how limited a game console is now.
- Longevity: How long will this one last? Console generations seem shorter and shorter. And quality doesn’t seem better. While I could have just drawn the short straw but my previous consoles lasted to this day and I’ve gotten them all on release or a few months after.
Maybe it’s my pessimist attitude but I think the magic is wearing off. This could easily have been about the PS4. I think we hit a road block in tech for now. In the past we hit huge jumps from standard to 4k. Now it’s just going to be HD or 4k, the graphics will improve but won’t be drastic like in the 16 bit era. Our computers are getting cheaper now as well. Getting a working laptop that could also run decent games is more doable than ever. Heck spend more to get a desktop and it would last you longer than any console.
While yes I do know why they do this but this seems like something we should have got rid of like the floppy disk. Like any other art medium we would be appalled at this but we celebrate and expect it.
This is literally a monopoly. It’s just not taken seriously enough by the general public since it’s looked down upon because of the nature of the media. I guess I can’t blame them since our community does this and that.
