No buy year 2020

Pretty easy year for this challenge. But I think the real test will be in 2021. Once we can actually do things I think the temptation will be too much for some.

Least used/almost waste: Cordless Rotary tool

Was going to use it for small repairs and model kit tinkering but couldn’t find the time. Since Covid hit I was scrambling to find work/money and doing leisure activities felt bad. It’s still a good tool to have incase I do need a small power tool. But probably could have skipped this one.

But used my reward points on this one, so wasn’t a total waste.

Most used/saved me money: Hair clippers

Haven’t had a real hair cut in almost two years now. And learning how to trim my head really helped. And with everything going on wearing a hat seems like a great practice.

Doesn’t seem like wearing masks and hats is going away any time soon.

Kind of used: Sony A6300

Used it for a few projects but like most filmmakers during this time it’s kind of been sitting around collecting dust until we get a handle of this pandemic.

But I did get it used so I’m not contributing to more E waste. Used it about four times this year. Not a regret but after the shit hit the fan it really killed my motivation to make shorts.

New phone: iPhone SE (2020)

Kind of needing a new phone to use with the deals I got on the apple watch and airpods I got on Black Friday. Been wanting a quality of life upgrade since I got a new job.

Also it’s kind of my cheat buy of this year. Been really good overall and I am using my new gadgets almost every day.

Everything else:

The only full priced game I got this year was Death Stranding. I just couldn’t wait since I was really bored during the middle months of quarantine. But everything else was on sale. Did pretty good than normally. I would usually get more games on release but my time has been more limited so why not wait for them to get cheaper.

Considering I went on a overseas trip last year, I did pretty good this year. Had a few misses but more hits. And with everything going on this year I could have really let myself go.

My last purchases of the year will be for utility and organization.

Outlook for 2021:

The PS5 is probably the only thing I am really jonesing for. But that can wait. I think I may be outgrowing my roommate and my other friends. I think this honestly started way before this pandemic but I think this year highlighted it more.

They seem to be stuck in the past. Even during a pandemic they needlessly spend money on going out and partying. Their priorities seemed really skewed in staying poor and not really moving on with their careers or whatnot. When your in your mid 30s and still haven’t had a clue you need to do so, your not getting any younger. But I digress it’s their choice.
