Great Pretender season 2 Wizard of far east Spoilers!
Make some coffee, this one is a long one.
Netflix just released the next case and wow it’s a great one. More backstory and feels like a huge magic tick in this one case season. It holds your attention with all the action and mini cons along the way to a grand finale with another big reveal after the credits.
A pretty fun story this time around our main focus this time on Edamame with a B story on Laurent. We get more insight into how Laurent came to be and his motivations are. And the show reveals what the first season was setting up.
Without spoiling too much the ending was great and had great characters come back for an Endgame style return.
But I didn’t love it like the first season.
Well stop reading now if you don’t want spoilers.
Ok so Dorothy being alive with lost memory feels like a cop out. Yes I do want a happy ending for Laurent in the future but it all felt too neat.
It also doesn’t make the stakes feel real. Like in the first season people die or could die. It all felt too safe and it seems like all the characters all got their safe result.
Yes we don’t know if any of the characters know she is alive but I feel like it’s only a matter of time. And it feels like a plot hole since we know how resourceful the team is. I think they could easily find her given enough time.
Seiji Ozaki is a great addition to the show but it does open up a few holes as well. Unless it was all part of their plan. And that’s what makes this hard to critique.
You could say everything was planned. Which makes the series feel less important. If everything was a plan what was the point? There doesn’t seem like there was a risk to anything then.
But overall it was an entertaining season even with some problems.
