If I could sum up the first 10 episodes of this anime it’s bury the lede. The show opens with flashy cop procedure dramas with Bruce Wayne who instead of being Batman becomes a cop instead.

We learn about Daisuke Kambe’s motivations in episode 7. But everything up to this point seemed a bit pointless. I mean it just felt like filler until the plot wanted to move.

But it did surprise me by the sudden serious tone shift. I thought I had the show figured out until the curve ball. I know the show was on hiatus for a bit due to the pandemic but it felt like the writers didn’t know what they wanted to do.

I thought we were going to learn more about our other main Kato Haru, but nope it’s very vague or I guess it wasn’t important enough to the plot. Also episodes felt out of order or there was missing stories all together. Our mains was going to HK for something but in the next episode we cut to them coming back from that trip. Like why not show what they did? Was it a Rick and Morty joke?

I get it if this was a new story or something but there was adapted from a novel series. Was the first few episodes of the anime really necessary? And I know that it’s a old series and love the throw back look that the anime has. But I feel like it could have used a few more modern upgrades.

Nothing really connected until it was. The first few cases was just for show and when the real story came along it turned out to be Kambe’s dad.

A super villain to rival Sherlock Holmes because he can? I mean the family has unlimited wealth, the show keeps saying it every episode. So what is the point in murdering your own wife and doing all theses shady dealings?

I guess it’s power, but the show doesn’t really show us or tell us what in the world could he really want after 19 years of running around. They can probably wrap it up nicely since there should be two more episodes left.

The show just doesn’t feel like it’s about anything. I thought we would see Kato and Kambe learn from each other or something. The most interesting things happen off screen. And we’re just left with the characters telling us what happened or what to feel.

The show is still entertaining in the turn off your brain kind of way. But I think it’s going to be forgettable once it finishes airing.
